A 32-year-old man was on Tuesday arrested in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found mutilated in the mountains in the Dordabis area.

In a crime report update issued Tuesday, Namibian Police Force spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said the suspect was arrested in the Dordabis area next to a riverbed after a manhunt by the police, who searched on foot and with the assistance of a police helicopter.

The suspect’s name is known but cannot be revealed before his court appearance on Thursday.

He stands accused of murdering 23-year-old Lydia Garises, whose body was found in a riverbed in the mountains at Stinkwater in the Dordabis area on Monday. According to the police she had been sexually violated and her genitals appeared to have been removed.

Shikwambi said Garises was last seen at a wedding celebration at Stinkwater on Saturday between 22h00 and 23h00.

Her body was found by a passerby.
