Man arrested with cannabis at Rundu Town Hall meeting

The Police in the Kavango East Region on Friday arrested a 36-year-old man with cannabis at the Presidential Town Hall meeting at the Rundu Conventional Centre.

This was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner, Vilho Kalwenya, in charge of the operations department in the region on Sunday.

Kalwenya said the suspect, believed to be the representative of the Rastafarians United Front was arrested at the security entrance of the venue during a screening where he was found with a small sack of cannabis called Bali.

The Rastafarians United Front was also scheduled to present at the town hall meeting. However, the arrest made it impossible for the group to present their submission, he said.

Kalwenya added that the suspect was charged for being in possession of cannabis and he is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate Court on Monday.

Recently, activists have been campaigning for the legalisation of cannabis in Namibia. However, President Hage Geingob at the town hall meeting in the Erongo Region told the activists to convince him on the legalization of the drug.
