Man dies after wall collapses on him in Walvis Bay

A 35-year-old man died on Thursday after a wall collapsed on him in Walvis Bay.

A Namibian Police Force incident report availed to Nampa said the man has been identified as Alfeus Karunga, who was an employee of DM Rail Construction.

It said the 31-year-old licensed driver of a bus belonging to the company, whilst driving out of the company’s yard accidentally hit the boundary wall with the rear of the bus.

“This caused the wall to collapse and fall on two employees of the company who were standing close to the wall. They were seriously injured and admitted to the Welwitschia Private Hospital, where one later succumbed to his injuries,” the report said.

The driver was arrested and a case of reckless or negligent driving and culpable homicide was opened against him.

The next of kin of the deceased were informed and police investigations continue.
