Man dies in shack fire at Gobabis

A 27 year old man died in a shack fire on Sunday after his shack caught fire in the Freedom Square informal settlement, in Epako, Gobabis district.

A weekend crime report issued to Nampa by the Namibian Police Force (Nampol)'s Chief Inspector, Kauna Shikwambi on Sunday, indicates that the incident occurred at about 03h00 Sunday morning.

According to the report, it is alleged that neighbors heard the deceased who stays alone screaming in the burning shack, however they failed to rescue him because the door was locked with a chain and padlock from inside.

After the fire was extinguished, Steven's burned body was found by the door inside the burned shack.

The police further noted that the cause of the fire is still unknown and police investigations are still on going.

The deceased has been identified as Steven Adams.

His next of kin have been informed.
