Man dies in vehicle accident

A 30-year-old Namibian male identified as Titus Niitshinda succumbed to injuries on the Arandis-Swakopmund road on Thursday, Erongo Namibian Police inspector for community affairs, Ileni Shapumba said.

Shapumba in an incident report availed to Nampa said that a sedan VW Golf-R hit a truck on its left rear bumper, resulting in the accident and damage to both vehicles.

“It is alleged that the driver of the white Golf-R was travelling from Arandis to Swakopmund, while a white and green truck with Swakopmund registration was travelling from Swakopmund, turning into Walvis Bay Dune 7-C24 road, to proceed to Walvis Bay. The driver of the sedan succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the accident,” said Shapumba.

The deceased’s body was transported to Swakopmund State Hospital for further handling and post-mortem examinations.

The 54-year-old Namibian male driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. NamPol opened cases of culpable homicide and negligence and reckless driving.

The next of kin of the deceased were informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
