Man gets N.dollars 500 bail after killing alleged robber

A 43-year-old man who was arrested last week Wednesday for stabbing and killing a 37-year-old man who was allegedly trying to rob him was granted bail of N.dollars 500 in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Court documents seen by Nampa on Monday indicates that the accused, Dawid Frederick van der Westhuizen made his first court appearance before magistrate Uchen Konjore who granted him bail.

Konjore postponed the case to 25 August this year for further police investigations and for the accused to acquire legal representation.

During the court hearing on Friday, Van der Westhuizen informed the court that he will seek the services of a government-funded lawyer.

The State was represented by Lewis Chigunwe.

Van der Westhuizen allegedly stabbed Edward Martin Hanse after Hanse and a suspected accomplice wanted to rob him in an incident that occurred on Wednesday at around 17h20 next to B1 main road at Keetmanshoop.

Hanse was stabbed with a knife in the chest and died on the spot.
