A 30-year-old man reportedly died upon arrival at a local hospital in Swakopmund after jumping from the Swakopmund Jetty on Wednesday.

A media report issued by the Namibia Police Force (NamPol) on Thursday indicated that the suicide attempt occurred at about 13h30.

It is alleged that the man who jumped into the sea was shortly retrieved by a witness who was in the area, assisted by a rescue service and transported to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

The deceased was identified as Nelson Karipose, whose next of kin have been informed of his death.

In a separate incident, the body of 31-year-old Shigwedha Agas Karuvaru was found hanging from a tree at the Kuisebmund Stadium in Walvis Bay on Wednesday.

It is alleged that the body was discovered by a municipal employee who was gardening at the soccer field when he heard a cell phone ringing in the area and decided to investigate.

The employee then informed the Community Against Crime’s office, who then reported the incident to the police.

No suicide notes were found at both scenes.
