Man trampled to death by elephant at Kahanga village

WINDHOEK: A 24-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant at the Kahanga village of the Mukwe Constituency in the Kavango East Region at about 20h15 on Friday.

The deceased, Muyenga Shamwaka, was walking home with a friend from a nearby bar when the incident happened.

Inspector Stephan Nuuyi of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations Division said during the weekly police media briefing today the two came across the elephant and it started to chase them.

The friend manage to run away unhurt, and the deceased’s next of kin have been informed.

In the Omusati Region, a skeleton of an adult male was found in the bushes between the Iipundi and Etumba cattle posts in the Tsandi Constituency by a cattle herder on Friday at unknown time.

The cause of death is unknown.
