Men arrested with cannabis to plead in 2020

Two men arrested in March this year with cannabis weighing 430 grams will plead to the charges in

January next year.

Ludwig Jonker, 41, and his co-accused Johannes Visagie, 47, made a brief court appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate's Court on Thursday before Magistrate Olivia Van der Colff.

Van der Colff postponed their case to 22 January 2020 for plea ad trial.

The State was represented by Colleen Yisa.

When they appeared in court for the first time on 13 March this year, the duo were denied bail because Jonker has a pending drug case in which he was out on bail of N.dollars 3 000.

In that case, Jonker appeared before court on 06 February after he was arrested with 50 full Mandrax tablets valued at N.dollars 5 000 on 05 February this year.

The two were however granted bail of N.dollars 2 500 each on 18 March 2019 on condition that they report themselves to the Keetmanshoop Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between the hours of 08h00 and 17h00.

They are represented in court by privately instructed defence lawyer, Percy McNally.

It is alleged that Jonker and Visagie were arrested at the Tseiblaagte residential area on 10 March with the cannabis valued at N.dollars 4 300 after the vehicle they were driving in was stopped and searched by members of the Namibian Police Force's Drug Law Enforcement Unit.
