Miller and Steyn win National MTB champs

Alex Miller and Irene Steyn were on Sunday crowned champions at the National Mountain Bike Championships that where held at the IJG Trails in Windhoek.

In the Elite Men's category, Alex Miller beat his closes competitor Tristan de Lange with a one-minute gap after six laps of racing.

The two young cyclists broke off from the rest of the peloton just after the first lap of the race.

Miller who thus far has been having a great year after finishing third at the African Mountain Bike (MTB) Championships that were held at the same track, where he clinched a place for Namibia at next year's Olympic Games lived up to his expectations as he led the race from start to finish.

Xavier Papo who had a lonely race throughout the afternoon finished the race in third place.

In the elite women category Steyn was crowned the new champion of the National MTB championship after finishing the race with more then10 minutes from her counterparts.

Michelle Vorster the queen of Namibian MTB competition and 2018 race winner was not available to defend her title as she is still recovering from a motor vehicle accident she sustained nearly three months ago while training in the B1 road.

Marion Schonecke finished the race in second place while Courtney Liebenberg occupied third spot in the elite women race.

In the junior men category Hugo Hahn was crowned champion while Dieter Koen and AdriaanKotze came second and third respectively.
