Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula yesterday announced that the country recorded 248 new COVID-19 positive cases and six deaths.

The deaths were reported from the Rehoboth, Windhoek, Omaruru, Gobabis and Walvis Bay districts.

Shangula said the cases were identified from 1 849 results received from the laboratories in the last 24 hours, and have a gender distribution of 124 males and 124 females ranging from a three-month-old baby to an 84-year-old person.

“Among the confirmed cases are 52 learners, 11 healthcare workers and 10 teachers,” Shangula elaborated.

The minister also reported 183 new recoveries bringing the total number of COVID-19 active cases to 1 821 of which 176 are hospitalised, and 40 patients are receiving intensive care.

He announced that 1 269 vaccines have been administered bringing the total number of people vaccinated so far to 24 694.
