A 12-year-old girl allegedly drowned while swimming on Friday at Omulambaowambo Bridge, 1km from the Oshivelo checkpoint along the B1 Road.

According to a crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Sunday, the deceased was reportedly swimming with three other people in the water under the bridge at the time of the incident.

“The body was retrieved from the water by NamPol divers and the deceased was identified as a Grade 8 learner at Uukumwe Combined School, Tresia Nghilukilwa. The next of kin were informed and police investigations continue.”

In a separate incident, a passenger reportedly sustained injuries on Friday after a number of passengers fell off a pickup vehicle while it was in motion in the Ruacana area. According to the crime report, the accident happened when the roll bars of the vehicle suddenly fell off. It is further alleged that the unlicensed driver of the pickup had loaded more than 10 passengers on the open bakkie. The injured passenger was admitted at Outapi State Hospital.

“The driver failed to report the incident and efforts to trace the driver are underway,” the police said.

Meanwhile, police in Kamanjab are investigating a case of reckless and or negligent driving after a driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle on the C40 road, about 20km to Kamanjab on Friday at about 18h30. It is reported that the vehicle left the road, crashed into a heap of sand and overturned causing serious injuries to all three occupants while damaging the vehicle.

The occupants were taken to Outjo State Hospital by ambulance and police investigations continue.
