Mondy Ndjavera Winter tournament this weekend

The Mbiripipo Mondy Ndjavera football and netball winter tournament is set to take place at the John Ya-Otto, Khamsdal and Ella Du Plessis sports grounds in Windhoek on Saturday and Sunday.

Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, one of the tournament’s organisers, Tjiurimo Hange, said this will be the first edition but they hope for an extension should the tournament prove successful.

Hange stated that due to COVID-19 measures and protocols, three sports field have been identified for hosting all games, which will allow for more people to witness the games in separate venues while also avoiding overcrowding.

“The tournament has thus far attracted more than 35 football and netball teams from as far as Opuwo, Gam, Omatjete, Omaheke and Windhoek,” said Hange.

The tournament received a boost of N.dollars 100 000 sponsored by Mondy and Nambeiue Ndjavera. N.dollars 40 000 will be allocated to administration while the remaining N.dollars 60 000 will be demarcated among the winning teams for both netball and football.

The netball champions will walk away with N.dollars 10 000 and a trophy, while the runner-up will pocket N.dollars 5 000 and the losing semi-finalists, N.dollars 2 500 each.

The football champions will receive N.dollars 20 000 and a trophy, the runner-up will receive N.dollars 10 000 and the losing semi-finalists will each walk away with N.dollars 5 000.

Individual prizes will also be given to the top performing players.

Hange said strict compliance to COVID-19 regulations will be ensured at all games.
