The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) on Friday announced that 82 per cent of its employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Last year Namcor became one of the first institutions to introduce mandatory vaccination for its employees.

In a media statement on Friday, the corporation said 84 per cent of the employees at its head office in Windhoek have been vaccinated, while the vaccination rate is 80 per cent at its national oil storage facility in Walvis Bay and 55 per cent at depots in Otjiwarongo and Gobabis, which totals 82 per cent of total employees vaccinated.

“Namcor continues to relentlessly implement its vaccination directive throughout the company to have as many staff members possible vaccinated to maintain a healthy and productive workforce,” Namcor’s Managing Director, Immanuel Mulunga is quoted as saying in the statement.

It further said in efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, Namcor has implemented various interventions which include offering all employees a special leave day in order to get vaccinated, conducting a Vax and Win competition where employees stand a chance to win cash prizes through a lucky draw, and conducting medical workshops and information sessions internally.

The company provides an option to the remaining unvaccinated employees to either get vaccinated or alternatively present weekly negative test results.

“In response to the government’s request to get more Namibians to vaccinate against COVID-19, Namcor has done its part through these interventions not only to provide a safe and secure work environment for its staff and stakeholders, but also to contribute to the nation’s drive to improve the national vaccination rate, with the aim to achieve herd immunity,” said the statement.
