The draw for the round of eight of the MTC NFA Aweh Cup will see exciting fixtures with Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) outfits locking horns over this coming weekend.

Eight fixtures were the past weekend played in four different towns of Tsumeb, Mariental, Walvis Bay and Windhoek which saw eight teams progressing to the next round of the competition.

Fixtures that were played in Windhoek on Sunday saw Citizens and Civics progressing to the quarterfinals while fixtures that were played in Tsumeb on Saturday saw the likes of Khuse, Tigers, Young Africa and Might Gunners book themselves spots in the quarterfinals.

In Mariental, Young Brazilian made it through while in Walvis Bay it was the home team Blue Water who booked a spot in the quarterfinals.

The MTC NFA Aweh Cup quarterfinals will be played on 25 and 26 September 2021 at venues and times still to be confirmed by the NFA.

In this round of the competition Khuse Football Club, the only lower-division outfit left in the competition and to play their trade in the Oshana Second Division will take on Civics FC who are in the country’s elite league, the NPFL.

Other fixtures expected in the quarterfinals will only consist of NPFL teams with Young Brazilians to play Blue Waters, Citizens taking on 2017 Football Association cup winners Young African and Tigers playing Mighty Gunners.

In an interview with Nampa after his team progressed to the next round of the competition on Sunday, Citizens’ coach, Christy Guruseb, said this is a cup competition where you will be knocked out if you don’t play your best game but progressing to the next round of the competition is their main goal.

“We are 70 to 80 per cent fit and we should thank the gods for progressing to the next round of the competition because the second half was all about our opponents DTS HopSol but we managed to win against them and we are now looking forward to our next game,” he said.
