The Swapo regional coordinator for ||Kharas, Matheus Mumbala has called on women in his party to be at the forefront in the party’s quest to mobilise members in all its structures and educate them on the party’s policies and principles.

Speaking at the start of the Swapo Party Women Council (SPWC) conference here on Saturday, convened to elect new leadership, Mumbala said: “You are all our mothers, mothers care for their children, so it is your role and responsibility in the party, our party is under attacks, let us push for peace and love in our party.”

Mumbala also called on party members to instil and educate what the party has done in the past to their children, adding that many young people have no knowledge of what the party has done and are moving away from the party.

“We all know that only the Swapo Party managed to wage both military and political fights that brought us the freedom we all enjoy today, these facts must be told to our children every day so that they too can grow with the Swapo Party pride,” he stressed.

Further, the regional coordinator called on the Swapo leadership at national level to ensure that enough resources are allocated to all party structures including district, branch and section levels.

“It is unacceptable that we have to use our operational budget at regional level to pay for transport for members to attend conferences such as this, that should be done by funds allocated to districts, branches and sections, it is at these conferences that we shape up our leaders,” he said.

Also speaking, SPWC deputy secretary Fransina Kahungu urged women at the conference to educate members at section levels on the party’s policies and constitution, resolutions and directives taken at all levels of the party, citing that the masses are found at section level.

“At the district, regional or even national level, it is only certain individuals but it is at the section level where the masses are and they need to be informed on what is happening in the party. At the section level is where the party’s base is and as women let us try our level best to participate in political, economic, religious, cultural and social activities in your respective districts,” she urged.
