The late Absai Uetuesapi Mungendje was accorded an official funeral, the government announced in a press release on Saturday.
Mungendje died on 09 March 2023 at the age of 99.
His memorial service is taking place at Toasis in the Aminius Constituency of the Omaheke Region on Saturday. The burial service will take place in Toasis on Sunday.
The late Mungendje was part of the group of 154 freedom fighters sent into exile by Chief Hosea Kutako, to take up arms for the liberation of Namibia.
He was later entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the sacred shrine at the Chief Hosea Kutako Homestead in Toasis.
Mungendje was described in the statement as a patriarch of the Mungunda clan, divine priest, nationalist and veteran of Namibia’s struggle for self-determination.
