The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango West Region is investigating a case of murder and concealment of birth involving a 26-year-old woman.

NamPol, in the daily crime briefing report issued on Wednesday, said the woman in question, who is yet to be arrested and charged for murder and concealment of birth, is currently receiving medical observation and examination.

It is alleged that on 13 March 2023, the suspect gave birth to a fully developed baby girl in her room by herself, after which she allegedly placed the baby in a plastic bag and dumped her in the bushes away from her homestead.

The police further indicate that the suspect allegedly removed the baby from the place where she had discarded the plastic bag and buried the baby’s remains in a shallow grave a short distance away from the initial dumping place.

The remains were allegedly located by the police and were found wrapped in a red plastic bag with its lower limbs cut off.

The incident happened at Mile 30 village in the Kavango West Region.

The baby’s remains were transported to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
