Members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Otavi are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after two security guards were found dead at a town council farming plot on Saturday.

NamPol Community Affairs Officer in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Olivia Haihambo, in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday said the two men were identified by relatives as Eliakim Shuuya, 37, and 45-year-old Erastus Mateus.

The guards were employees of Nahole Security Services. Their bodies were discovered by their supervisor when he visited their duty site Saturday morning.

“It is alleged that Shuuya and Mateus were on Friday afternoon involved in a physical fight while they were both on duty,” said Haihambo.

Shuuya’s body was lying at the main gate of the plot, while Mateus’s body was found hanging in the garage.

Cases of murder and suicide have been opened at the Otavi Police Station, she said.

In a separate murder incident at Okahandja, a 19-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly stabbed 24-year-old Carlton Diergaardt to death.

Diergaardt succumbed to the single stab wound in the right side of his chest. He died while he was being transported to the Okahandja State Hospital around 02h30 on Sunday, said Haihambo.

The suspect in the matter is expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court this week.

Police investigations in both cases continue.
