Pontianus Musore has been appointed the new Kavango West Region Director of Education, following the appointment of Teopolina Hamutumua as the Chief Regional Officer in the Oshana Region in September last year.

Prior to his new appointment, Musore who has been in the employment of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture since 2000, served as the deputy director of programs and quality assurance since 2019 in the directorate of education in the Kavango East Region.

In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday Musore said he started his new role on Tuesday and already had his first round of briefings and meetings with the head of sections on the state of affairs in the directorate.

‘Like any other directorate of education in other regions, Kavango West is faced with numerous challenges as well,’ he said.

This includes issues of infrastructure such as lack of classrooms, and spaces in schools and hostels due to the increasing learner population.

Musore further highlighted high teenage pregnancy rates in both the Kavango East and West Regions as another challenge which needs the involvement of all important sectors, especially the parents.

Last year 860 schoolgirls fell pregnant in the Kavango East Region including an eleven-year-old girl while Kavango West Region recorded 554.
