Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, on Wednesday inspected the 10 kilometre Kaisosi to Vhungu Vhungu road, as well as the section of the road between Rundu and Divundu which is being upgraded.

Mutorwa was accompanied by regional leaders and the Roads Authority executive.

The tender for the two roads was given to Roathart CC last October, with work expected to be completed over a period of 10 months.

“I am happy with the progress made thus far on both roads and commend all stakeholders involved in the project,” he said.

The minister was however irked by the condition of the roads in Rundu, where potholes could be observed, and called on the Rundu Town Council to fast-track the rehabilitation of these roads.

Mutorwa said the Road Fund Administration contributed N.dollars 5 million for the rehabilitation and upgrade of roads in Rundu for this financial year.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Rundu Town Council, Olavi Nathanael said the road works on the Kaisosi to Vhungu Vhungu road are valued at N.dollars 29 million, which will include work on a second phase.

Work on the second phase of the road will take place from the UNAM Campus up to the Trans- Zambezi Highway.

Meanwhile the upgrading of the 7.5 kilometre section of the Rundu to Divundu road is valued at N.dollars 27 million.

Nathanael said the section of the road from the Rundu Fresh Produce Hub to the Trans- Zambezi Highway forms part of the second phase.

With regards to Mutorwa’s remarks on the damaged roads in Rundu, Nathanael said work on these roads will start soon as a contractor has already been identified.
