Windhoek: Lawyer Sisa Namandje, representing Peter and Malakia Elindi in the Namcor-Enercon corruption case, has accused the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Namibia of abusing its power by prematurely arresting his clients. Namandje claims that the ACC overstepped its authority by arresting the suspects without sufficient cause, merely exercising power rather than adhering to legal procedures.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Namandje addressed the issue in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in front of Magistrate Linus Samunzala during the initial bail hearing for Peter Elindi. Elindi is among nine individuals accused of engaging in fraudulent activities, racketeering, and money laundering, involving N.dollars 480 million at the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor).

Namandje contended that the alleged N.dollars 480 million involved in corrupt activities at Namcor is an inflated figure, lacking concrete evidence from the State to substantiate the claims against the accused. He expressed con
fidence that the State would fail to validate this amount both in the bail application and during the trial.

Furthermore, Namandje accused the State of leveraging media coverage to incite public discontent against the accused individuals. He argued that the State deliberately involved the media to subject the accused to undue public scrutiny during their arrest.

The bail hearing is scheduled to continue in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
