Namdeb on Friday donated a fully-equipped secondary school to the Ministry of Education

Namdeb on Friday donated a fully-equipped secondary school to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture at Oranjemund valued at close to N.dollars 17 million.

Namdeb said in a media statement the school previously formed part of the Oranjemund Private School and after due consultation and engagement, it was decided that the future needs of the community will be better served by donating the infrastructure to government.

The statement said previously the mine-owned town was exclusively founded for the accommodation of personnel in support of the diamond mining operations, but the proclamation of Oranjemund as a town necessitated a change in approach and Namdeb decided to re-look at the mine's service provision role in the town and community.

It adds that in parallel with this, the government also identified the increased need for public schooling and in 2014, a new public school, Ambrosius Amutenya Combined School, opened its doors in Oranjemund, supported by Namdeb as it used buildings the company converted to classrooms.

The donation of the new school by Namdeb on Friday enables the school to kick off on a high note with top-class education facilities as the new secondary school is already in full operation with a total of 262 learners enrolled, added the statement.
