Namibia and Angola agree to reopen borders

The Angolan and Namibian governments have agreed to re-open the Oshikango-Santa Clara and Katwiwi Border posts effective 01 February 2022.

The borders between Angola and Namibia were closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak and was only operating to a limited extent for health issues, mainly of Angolans.

A statement availed to Nampa on Saturday by the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation said the other border posts along the two countries will be re-open by mid-February.

The statement said during a meeting held in Ondjiva, Angola on Friday, officials from Namibia and Angola reviewed the current COVID-19 regulations in place in both countries and emphasis was put on both countries to encourage more people in their respective countries to get vaccinated against the virus.

It added that the re-opening of the borders is to enable the movement of people and goods, in order to enhance socio-economic conditions.

At the meeting, the Angolan authorities announced that for anyone to enter that country, visitors must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test and vaccination certificate with two doses, while those with one dose are subjected to a seven-day quarantine period at their own cost.
