Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasised that in order to consolidate the Namibia-Tanzania bilateral relations, the two countries need to enhance their economic development on the African continent.

Nandi-Ndaitwah made the remarks at the third session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) between the two countries on Friday.

“Let us focus on fundamental issues that define our cooperation such as development, regional integration, poverty eradication, women empowerment, youth development and peace and security,” she said.

She also said in pursuing their common objectives, the two countries should use the third session to exchange ideas on how best they can jointly promote areas of mutual interest such as agriculture, fisheries, SME development, tourism, and health, among others.

Nandi-Ndaitwah further said as members of the Southern African Development Community and the African Union, it is important to make use of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to intensify trade, investment and collaboration between both countries.

In response Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Stergomena Lawrence Tax said, the convening of this third session of the JCC symbolises the commitment of the government of Namibia to strengthen their friendly relations.

“We should continue to cherish and share the Pan-Africanism spirit,” said Tax
