Namibia beats Ireland M1 Nations Cup in Singapore

The Desert Jewels Namibia's national senior netball team won their second game at the M1 Nations Cup 52-31 against Ireland on Monday.

The M1 Netball Nations Cup which features six nations is currently underway in Singapore.

The Desert Jewels who started the competition with a 54-54 draw against host nation Singapore on Sunday put up an impressive display in their second match at the competition which saw them coming out victorious against Ireland on day two of the championship.

Namibia battled hard as they took the lead in the first quarter of the match with the scores standing at 14-6.

In the second quarter Namibia scored 14 more points compared to their opponents nine to extend their lead into the half-time break of that quarter to 13 points. The quarter ended with Namibia leading the match 28-15.

In the third quarter, the two nations were equally matched as all teams only managed to score eight points with that quarter ending 36-23 in Namibia's favour.

Team Namibia put their foot down in the last quarter of the match scoring 15 points while their opponents only managed to score eight points as the match ended with the Desert Jewels winning their first match at the 13th anniversary of the M1 Nations Cup.

In 2012, Namibia finished third at the same competition.

Namibia's next game at the championship will be against Papua New Guinea who lost their opening game of the competition to Ireland on Sunday.
