and lt;P and gt; Namibia holds the 10th position in the world in terms of female representation in the National Assembly (NA). and lt;/P and gt; and lt;P and gt;It shares the position with Iceland and Nicaragua. and lt;/P and gt; and lt;P and gt;This is according to the latest figures released by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) as stated by Christina Hoebes, the Deputy Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister in her closing remarks at the ninth Namibian Women Summit in Windhoek yesterday. and lt;/P and gt; and lt;P and gt;The three-day summit was held in the capital under the theme ‘Women embracing change for prosperity’. and lt;/P and gt; and lt;P and gt;According to the IPU, Namibia’s current female representation in the National Assembly now stands at 47 per cent. and lt;/P and gt; and lt;P and gt;This is compared to 26 per cent in female representation 10 years ago when the country held the 21st position. and lt;/P and gt; and lt;P and gt;The deputy minister said in a speech she delivered on behalf of Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila she is convinced that after the Regional Council elections in November this year, Namibia should move further on the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s ranking. and lt;/P and gt; and lt;P/ and gt;
