THE Oshakati police have arrested a 19-year-old man after he allegedly hit and killed 22-year-old Ananias Shiyemba with a brick on the head.

The incident happened at the Oshiyandila village on Friday.

Police spokesperson chief inspector Kauna Shikwambi yesterday said Shiyemba died on the spot, and the teenager was arrested.

He is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate's Court today.

Shikwambi also said an inquest docket was opened after 40-year-old Hinchemann Ubertho died after he tripped and hit his head on a stone at Grootfontein on Saturday.

Ubertho was walking back home from a beer-drinking session with his friends when the incident happened. His next of kin were informed, and police investigations continue.

Another inquest is being held at Kombat in the Otjozondjupa region, where seven-year-old Elias Magare died on Saturday when a candle left alight in the family home burnt the room he was sleeping in.

In Katutura's Mix location, a 50-year-old driver hit a two-year-old girl on Saturday and fled the scene of the accident.

"The girl was rushed to the Lady Pohamba Private Hospital, but succumbed to her injuries. The suspect has not yet been arrested. Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated," Shikwambi said.

Meanwhile, an attempted murder case was opened when a 33-year-old man was shot in the leg with a pistol for unknown reasons at Ongwediva on Friday.

The suspect (38) was arrested, and the pistol confiscated.
