Namibia qualifies for 2020 CHAN

The Namibian national senior football team Brave Warriors progressed to the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) for a second successive time after beating Madagascar 2-1 on aggregate on Saturday in Windhoek.

Two brilliant goals by Elmo Kambindu on both halves of the game was all the Brave Warriors needed to booked themselves a spot at the 2020 CHAN competition that will be held in Cameroon.

Going into Saturday game at the Sam Nujoma stadium in Katutura the Namibian team trailed the game with a 0-1 aggregate score line from their defeat a month ago in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

It just took the Namibian team 11 minutes to find the back of the net after the tall Mighty Gunner striker Kambindu out jumped the Madagascar's defence and headed in Absalom Iimbondi's corner.

Despite finding the back of the net in the early minutes of the game the Namibian team continued pressing for a second goal but their efforts could not find the back of the net with the first half ending 1-0.

In the second half the Brave Warriors continued were they left it in the first half as a brilliant pass from goalkeeper Edward Maova found Kambindu in the 50th minute of the match and the on-song striker on the day volleyed the ball in the back of the net.

Despite the Madagascar team giving it their all in the second half the Namibian team stood their ground end won the match comfortably with a 2-0 score line and 2-1 on aggregate to booked themselves a spot for a second time at the CHAN competition.

Speaking to the media after the match interim coach Bobby Samaria said he was happy the team qualified for the 2020 CHAN competition and credit should be given to the players for delivering on the day.

Today it's all about the players who played well based on the instructions given to them which in the end won us the game. I am happy to see that our game plan on the day paid off, he said.

The coach added that their plan going forward which zis to have the team in camp which will keep the player busy in the absence of a league in the country.

The sixth edition of the CHAN championship will be held in Cameroon during the month of January and February 2020.
