Namibian Businesswoman of the Year awards launched

The Namibian Businesswoman of the Year, which celebrates the achievements of remarkable women and recognise the strides made by female leaders, was officially launched here on Monday.

Past Businesswoman of the Year winners include Managing Director of the Old Mutual Short-term Insurance, NangulaKauluma (2017), Country Senior Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Namibia NangulaUaandja (2011) and the first female chairperson of the Bankers Association of Namibia Baronice Hans (2015).

There are five various award categories of which Esmeralda Katjaerua won Young Business Women's in 2017.

Speaking at the launch, Katjaerua said this title has opened multiple doors such as her law firm Katjaerua Legal Practitioners being selected as a member of Lexlink International Legal Network which is an international network of boutique firms and now comprises members in more than 30 countries across the globe and only recognises one law firm per country.

It has put us on the globe as everybody knows about us and we have had dealings with international bodies like people from Japan, Dubai and South America and simply on the basis of being apart of this international network, Katjaerua said.

She further encourage women from all walks of life to apply for the awards as it will boost their connections and brand.

The other categories are Business Owner, Private and Corporate Sector as well as Community and Government Award.

The Economist Businesswomen Projects organiser, DesereLundon-Muller added that the competition is judged strictly on merit and each category will have a separate panel of judges which will include prominent business as well as community leaders and entrepreneurs.

The judging will be based primarily on the information submitted on the official entry form and the judges will also interview entrants during the selection process, Lundon-Muller said.
