Namibian Govt plans to develop up to 50,000 hectares of land at Mangetti Cattle Ranch in Kavango West Region for farming projects (The Namibia Press Agency)

The Namibian Government has plans to develop up to 50 000 hectares of land at the Mangetti Cattle Ranch in the Kavango West Region for various farming projects.

The Mangetti Cattle Ranch is owned by the parastatal, Namibia Development Corporation (NDC) and is used for commercial livestock farming.

On Saturday, President Hage Geingob rounded off his northeastern consultative tour in Kavango West by making time to listen to the challenges faced by the inhabitants of that region at a packed community hall in Nkurenkuru.

Listening to a list of complaints about the lack of development projects from workers at the Mangetti Cattle Ranch, Geingob said plans are underway to develop the thousands of hectares into various farming projects.

Echoing similar sentiments, National Planning Commission (NPC) Director-General, Tom Allweendo said in terms of land, Namibia has plenty, most of which is lying idle. He said it is part of the NPC’s responsibility to look at what can be done with this land that the country has available.

Geingob was on a familiarization tour in Kavango West on Saturday.
