Namibian Navy has called on members of the public to come and view the exhibition equipment

The Namibian Navy has called on members of the public to come and view the exhibition of some of its equipment tomorrow at Walvis Bay.

The exhibition of the static and moving display will take place at PNS Sacharia naval base as part of the activities lined up for the navy's 15 year anniversary.

In an interview with Nampa yesterday, the Head of Public Relations at the Namibian Defence Force, Petrus Shilumbu said the navy will celebrate the day in style, noting that the men and women in uniform have already started with inter-sport competitions between navy units and other units within the NDF.

Shilumbu said the winners will receive prizes on 18 October, the main parade day.

The Namibian Navy was established on 07 October 2004 for the peacetime role of augmenting civil offshore patrol forces and providing both the means and expertise to execute enforcement action effectively.

Their specific tasks include assisting civil forces to combat illegal immigration and smuggling of arms and drugs; dealing with threats to the environment; conducting maritime surveillance, search and rescue; and assisting the Ministry of Fisheries with enforcing a fisheries protection regime.
