Namibian Police Force burns drugs worth N.dollars 9 million, confiscated from as early as 1994

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the //Kharas Region here yesterday burned drugs worth N.dollars 9 million, confiscated from as early as 1994.

In a briefing with the media, NamPol crime investigations coordinator for the //Kharas Region, Deputy Commissioner ChrispinMubebo said the drugs consisted of cannabis, Mandrax tablets and cocaine.

He said the drugs were of cases finalised in court and those responsible were convicted and date from 1994 to 2016, explaining that as per set procedures, the exhibits can only be disposed of after a case is finalised and the convicted person has spent at least a year in prison as the person can appeal within a year and those drugs or exhibits should then be present before court.

He noted that most of those convicted are young women and men.

Mubebo commended the force for seizing the drugs, adding that based on the volume, so many lives have been saved or spared.
