NamPol calls on Namibians to assist in fight against illicit drugs

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, on Monday called on Namibians to assist NamPol in destroying the illicit drug market in the country.

In an interview with Nampa, Shikwambi said the police have a mammoth task in uncovering the illicit drug trade.

“There is a constant influx of drugs into the country from different entry points, including undesignated entry points. The Namibian Police Force continues to arrest offenders and confiscate these illegal substances with the assistance of the community and our stakeholders,” said Shikwambi.

She urged Namibians to continue reporting drug-related cases to the police, amongst others to protect the youth and safeguard their future.

NamPol arrested 94 suspects for various illicit drug crimes from 01 to 31 May 2021. Ninety-two of the suspects were Namibians, while the remaining two suspects were from South Africa and Angola.

Over the same period, illicit drugs valued at N.dollars 816 780 were seized.

The police reported that 779 998 kilogrammes of cannabis valued at N.dollars 779 980; 125 Mandrax tablets valued at N.dollars 15 000; 33 grams of cocaine powder valued at N.dollars 16 500 and 53 units of crack cocaine valued at N.dollars 5 300 were seized over this period.
