The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has cautioned the public about a false audio clip warning people not to buy dried meat from unknown persons as it has allegedly been poisoned.

NamPol spokesperson, deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, in a media statement on Thursday said the audio clip in different vernaculars alleges that thieves killed cattle on a farm near Okahandja, slaughtered the cattle and hanged the meat in the bushes to dry.

It further claims that while patrolling, the farm owner came across the dried meat and coated it in poison. He then went home and later changed his mind, but when he went to destroy it, found that the meat was no longer there.

“Preliminary investigations by the police proved the allegations appear to be false as the farmer mentioned does not exist, nor did any farmer report a case of poisoned meat at any of the police stations. If there is any truth in the allegations we are requesting the creator of the audio clips to visit the nearest police station and provide information,” said Shikwambi.
