Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Khomas Regional Commander, Joseph Shikongo, was on Wednesday promoted to the rank of major general and appointed as the deputy inspector general responsible for operations.

The appointment was made and announced by the Head of NamPol, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga, at an event held in Windhoek.

The newly-appointed major general takes over from retiring Deputy Inspector General, Major General Oscar Embubulu, who served in the office of the NamPol Inspector General since his appointment in April 2018.

Shikongo served as a member of the Namibian Police for 21 years after joining the force in November 2000 with the rank of inspector, after which he served in various ranks and has been deployed in various fields.

Ndeitunga said the newly appointed major general is a tested cadre of the Namibian Police Force with both administrative and operational police experience, police training and academic credentials.

“I am confident that I made a good choice and I am confident that Shikongo will assist me and NamPol to the best of his ability,” the inspector-general said.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Shikongo said he is ready to take up the position of deputy inspector general with honour and dignity.

“I would like to assure you that my loyalty and patriotism to our country, dating back as far as years of the liberation struggle, shall never waver. I am and will continue to be loyal to the Republic of Namibia, the people and the government,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ndeitunga further promoted 11 members of NamPol, including for the position Khomas Regional Commander which will be occupied by Commissioner Ismael Basson, who was promoted from the rank of deputy commissioner.

Commissioner Michael Abraham, who previously served as Special Branch Directorate Head, was also appointed as the head of the VIP Protection Directorate NamPol division.

Abraham is succeeded by Commissioner Hanemutila Amadhila, who previously served in the office of the inspector general as principal staff officer and he is succeeded by Commissioner Reinhard Haoseb.
