NamPol Khomas head clarifies shooting incident

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) yesterday refuted allegations circulating on social media that a member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) shot a civilian at the weekend.

NamPol's Khomas Region Commissioner, Joseph Shikongo, made the clarification during a media briefing yesterday.

I want to make it categorically clear that during the period under review, as reported, we did not have any NDF member involved in [the] shooting of a civilian as reported, he said.

Shikongo clarified that the allegations circulating on social media alleging that an NDF member in civilian clothing apparently shot a woman in the buttocks, are incorrect.

He explained that a woman who was dropped off by a taxi around 19h00 on Saturday in Clemence Kapuuo Street in Katutura, was allegedly immediately attacked by a robber, prompting the taxi driver to assist the women by firing warning shots into the air. The perpetrator then allegedly tried to attack the taxi driver with a knife.
