NamPol officials staying in former mortuary due to shortage of proper accommodation facilities

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) officials at Khorixas in the Kunene Region are staying in a former mortuary due to the shortage of proper accommodation facilities.

This was revealed by the Minister of Safety and Security, Charles Namoloh during a familiarisation visit to Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Monday.

The minister expressed his unhappiness at the housing and office accommodation shortages faced by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), saying this is what has forced the accommodating of NamPol members in the former mortuary.

Namoloh said some police are operating from deplorable offices at various stations around the country.

However, the Safety and Security Minister pointed out that his ministry has embarked upon a programme to provide decent housing and office accommodation for police officers.

He singled out Okankuati in the Kunene Region, saying it now has a modern police station equipped with, amongst others, accommodation and recreational facilities.

Regarding the shortage of transportation, Namoloh indicated that about 600 vehicles will be distributed to police stations in the regions early next year.
