The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) will be welcoming about 22 passenger cruise vessels to dock at its ports in Walvis Bay and Lüderitz during the upcoming festive season.

The ports authority expects to receive 15 cruise vessels at the Port of Walvis Bay and seven passenger vessels to berth at the Port of Lüderitz, with the first call being from the Italian MS Aidaaura vessel at Walvis Bay on 10 November.

The last call will be made by the MS Norwegian Jade on 31 December 2022.

A media release issued by Namport Executive for Commercial Services Elias Mwenyo on Tuesday, stated that Namport is committed to ensuring that all visitors are welcomed in a safe and secure manner.

“Tourists who disembark from every passenger vessel do so in a safe and welcoming manner as the ports authority appreciates the value that these visitors add to the tourism industry and in turn inject income to the country’s economy at large,” he said.

Passenger vessels also bring holidaymakers to the harbour towns who contribute significantly to the local tourism industry by spending money at local shops, making use of the public transport system, going on day excursions as well as purchasing souvenir items from vendors who specialise in local arts and crafts, Mwenyo added.
