Windhoek: Namibia Post Ltd (NamPost) is set to take over the distribution of old age grants, with preparations underway to ensure a smooth transition for beneficiaries across Namibia.

According to Namibia Press Agency, NamPost’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, Gladwin Groenewaldt, informed Nampa on Thursday that the company is currently configuring its payment systems to support both in-branch and mobile operations.

Groenewaldt stated, “High-volume branches will be reinforced with additional counters and staff, while mobile teams equipped with online and offline capabilities will serve remote areas.” He further explained that to reach beneficiaries living more than five kilometers from a NamPost branch, mobile payment teams will be deployed. The preference will be given to staff currently employed by the outgoing private service provider to maintain continuity.

All existing pay points will be covered either by nearby branches or mobile teams. Initially, grants will be distributed via virtual accounts. From April 2026, beneficiaries will have the option to move to Digital Grant Accounts, which will support biometric authentication and be compatible with the Instant Payment System.

Security measures will include the deployment of cash-in-transit guards to mobile pay points. Beneficiaries will be able to register using an ID or passport at any of NamPost’s 136 branches starting in October 2025 or during their first payment in November.

Groenewaldt added, “An awareness campaign to inform the nation about registration and payment schedules will launch on 01 September, using radio, newspapers, and television. NamPost also plans to promote financial inclusion by offering access to savings, insurance, and loan products through the Digital Grant Accounts.”

Feedback mechanisms will include in-branch customer service and toll-free helplines. The Ministry of Finance will oversee the transition and support NamPost’s operations, with contingency plans in place to address any challenges. NamPost aims to modernize grant distribution while enhancing financial access for elderly and vulnerable populations.
