NamPower is expecting to complete the 287 kilometre Auas-Gerus 400kV transmission line by mid-2023.

NamPower Corporate Communication and Marketing Manager, Tangeni Kambangula in a media statement on Tuesday said the construction of the transmission line is progressing well. The transmission line will span from the Auas substation near Dordabis to the Gerus substation near Otjiwarongo.

Kambangula said 249 kilometres of the line is complete, leaving 38 kilometres from Otjiwarongo to Gerus substation still to be completed.

The construction of the transmission towers is also almost complete, with 566 towers already installed.

Kambangula explained that the majority of the materials used in the projects are locally sourced and only materials not available locally, were imported.

“Most of the money was retained and reinvested within Namibia. Only materials which could not be locally sourced, have been imported,” she said.

The 287km Auas-Gerus transmission line will add a further 287 kilometres to the existing network of 11 700 kilometres.

The project is valued at N.dollars 641 million.
