NDF sports tourney kicks off at Keetmanshoop

The 6th Annual Sports Edition of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) kicked off at Keetmanshoop stadium on Monday morning.

This year's annual sports edition which is scheduled to take place from 05 to 10 August is being hosted by the 12 Motorised Infantry Brigade (Mot InfBde) based at KapteinHendrikWitbooi barracks, Keetmanshoop.

Speaking to Nampa here on Monday, 12 Bde Sports Vice Chairperson of the management committee, Lieutenant Colonel, SamoraNjambari said the tournament includes sport codes such as soccer, volleyball, netball, boxing, pool table and field and track.

Ahead of the commencement of the tournament, NDF members dressed in different sport attires marched from the bridge to Keetmanshoop stadium carrying different flags including Namibian Army, Air Force, Navy and Defence Headquarters amongst others.

The marching is aimed at creating awareness to the members of the public to know that we are here to present them with a busy but entertaining week filled with sport activities, said Njambari.

Njambari told this news agency that the official opening of the tournament will take place Tuesday and will be officiated by the Acting Chief of Defence, Air Vice Marshal, Martin Pinehas.

According to the organisers, the tournament is sponsored by Defence Force Foundation, (DFF), with an amount of N.dollars 139 000.

In 2018, the NDF sport tournament was hosted by 21 Bde in Windhoek whereas the overall winner was 26 Bde.
