The fourth edition of the annual Ndjoroka General Dealer netball and football tournament is set to kick off on Saturday and Sunday at the Christian Vejorerako and Kephas Muzuma sports grounds in Otjokavare, Kunene region.
Tournament organiser, Kohokee Herunga told Nampa on Thursday that the four-year-old event was initiated to promote sporting events at the grassroots level while uprooting and promoting small and medium enterprises at the village.
OK foods Opuwo is the main sponsor who pledged 90 per cent of the global tournament amount.
Herunga said more than 18 football and 10 netball teams are expected to battle for top prizes over the weekend.
The organisers have thus far set aside a global amount of N.dollars 25 000, while teams are to register with N.dollars 1 500 for both codes.
According to Herunga, the whole global amount is for the football category while the netball top teams will be remunerated in percentages according to the number of teams that will participate.
The winning football team will walk away with N.dollars 12 000, gold medals and a trophy, with the runner up to pocket N.dollars 7 000 and silver medals while the semi-final losers will each walk away with N.dollars 3 000.
Herunga noted that this year's edition will be played under the theme, 'Let's fight Covid-19 and stop gender-based violence.' All Covid-19 measures and protocols will be observed at all times.
