Newspaper distribution vehicle overturns outside Otavi

Five people aged between 12 and 42 years survived a road accident on Monday after a newspaper distribution bus they were travelling in overturned several times on the B1 road outside Otavi.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Monday that the accident occurred some 36 kilometres south of Otavi at about 12h09.

The vehicle was coming from the direction of Otavi to Otjiwarongo.

The distribution or goods' delivery vehicle belongs to NewEra Newspaper, said Mbeha.

Mbeha said its 42-year-old driver sustained serious injuries, while other four occupants in the vehicle aged 12, 27, 39, and 27 years sustained slight to serious injuries.

The injured persons and the driver were all treated at the Otavi State Clinic.

It is alleged the driver had lost control over the vehicle after its left front tyre burst on the Otavi-Otjiwarongo road.

A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened at the Otavi Police Station.

Police investigations continue.
