NFA appoints Traut as SG

Former Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Jochen Traut has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) for the next 12 months.

Traut was appointed by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) at NFA.

In a media release availed here Thursday, NFA said Traut takes over from Jacky Gertze who has held the post temporarily since April and is returning to her substantive position of Manager Women’s Football at the NFA Technical Center.

He will assist the NC in the day-to-day running of affairs at the beleaguered NFA.

“Interviews with shortlisted candidates were conducted in early July 2022 with the successful candidate (Traut) accepting the offer on the 19th of the same month. He is appointed on a 12-month fixed contract. As soon as the new executive is elected, it will be their prerogative to appoint a new substantive leader,” the statement read.

Traut, an Information and Communications Industry Specialist resigned as CRAN COO in January 2022 after spending 10 years at the organisation.

In total, he has over 40 years in the telecommunications industry and is credited with having played a huge role in setting up various communications companies in Namibia.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Technology from the Tshwane University of Technology, a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from UNISA and a Senior Management Program Certificate from the University of Stellenbosch Business School amongst his qualifications.

He has previously worked in football before, serving as manager of former Premier League Side SKW as well as Executive Committee Member of the Namibia Premier League.

The NFA also announced the appointment of former Brave Warriors assistant coach Paulus Shipanga on a caretaker basis as the head coach of the Brave Gladiators for the upcoming Council of Southern African Football Association (Cosafa) Cup scheduled for Durban from 31 August to 11 September.
