The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) recently sponsored top-performing students in the field of rural and regional development planning at the 2022 Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) academic awards.

The sponsorship forms part of a memorandum of understanding signed by NHE and NUST in 2017.

NHE Human Capital and Strategy Acting Executive, Dapewa Walther, told Nampa on Wednesday the purpose of this agreement is to provide students with internship opportunities in the fields of urban and rural development, to give graduates in-training exposure in the fields of architecture, and to reward top performers in the first, second, third, and fourth years of study.

Walther stated that this initiative contributes to a better and more skilled workforce for the benefit of Namibian society as a whole.

“The three-month internship opportunities aim to expose students to real-world work situations and experiences. In turn, NHE hopes to contribute to the construction industry’s skills shortage by investing in capacity building and skill development for Namibian children,” she stated.

Yapeni Nghiteeka, the best first-year student in the Bachelor of Regional and Rural Development programme, was quoted as saying: “I consider myself fortunate to have received this generous sponsorship and will continue to work hard.”
