Abuja: Nigeria’s Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar commended the Namibian Command and Staff College (NCSC) for its commitment to strengthening defence and education cooperation across Africa. Abubakar made the remarks when he received a delegation of 26 members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) led by Brigadier Benhard Erastus, Commandant of the NCSC. The delegation is on a weeklong study tour to Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Abubakar, in a speech shared with Nampa on Wednesday, expressed Nigeria’s readiness to share experiences, deepen mutual understanding, and build stronger partnerships with Namibia and other African countries in pursuit of continental peace and security. Abubakar further recalled the long-standing historical ties between Nigeria and Namibia, highlighting Nigeria’s active role during Africa’s liberation struggles and reaffirming its commitment to collaborative initiatives that advance regional stability. He also stressed the importance of African unity, saying that togetherness is essential to prevent external forces intent on dividing the continent.
On his part, Brigadier Erastus thanked the Nigerian government and the Ministry of Defence for the warm reception and for sharing insights into Nigeria’s defence policy, civil-military relations, and regional security operations. ‘This delegation chose Nigeria because of its regional leadership and to learn more about defence and security studies, which underpin sustainable economic development in Namibia,’ he said.
The visit included a presentation on the architecture of Nigeria’s defence ministry by the Joint Service Department, followed by a general discussion and interactive session. The Namibian delegation, as a symbol of appreciation, presented a plaque of honour to Nigeria’s defence ministry.
