Namibia will not have any representation in this season’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) Men’s Champions League tournament scheduled to kick off on 10 September 2021.

This was confirmed to Nampa by Franco Cosmos from the Namibia Football Association (NFA) on Monday, when he said because of the inactivity of the local league for the past two years, no team from Namibia qualifies to participate.

“We only had a transitional league (which has not been completed due to COVID-19). We do not meet the requirements to participate,” Cosmos explained.

He however said the team that wins the transitional league will qualify to participate, along with the team that wins the NFA Cup (Confederation Cup).

Cosmos added that Namibia will have Tura Magic’s women’s team participating in the inaugural Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Women’s Champions League, which serves as a qualifier for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

CAF released the 2021/22 interclub season schedule on Saturday, stating that the 2021/22 season will kick off on 10 September 2021 with the first round of the preliminaries.

The group stages will start in February 2022.
