Northwestern town of Khorixas in the Kunene Region have reportedly damaged water pipes

Amidst the ongoing drought, livestock owners and herders in the northwestern town of Khorixas in the Kunene Region have reportedly damaged water pipes that supply water to the town's aquifers.

The town has been experiencing water shortages due to the broken pipes, Chief Executive Officer of the Khorixas Town Council, Andreas |Howoseb said at a public meeting yesterday.

He said they were busy rectifying the problem, which he said was caused when livestock herders damaged a pipe of NamWater's potable water so their livestock can drink.

He said the council's technical team is hard at work, and that the pipes will be reinstated soon.

Residents of the town at the meeting further raised concern over household rubbish that was not collected for close to three weeks and in response, the CEO said the refuse could not be collected because the truck used is currently being serviced.
