Katima mulilo: National Democratic Party (NDP) president Martin Lukato has officially announced the party’s candidates in the Zambezi Region for the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections taking place in November.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the announcement includes 14 candidates for the seven seats on the Katima Mulilo Town Council, nine candidates for the five seats on the Bukalo Village Council, and seven candidates for the Zambezi regional constituencies. The candidates include Simasiku Mukendwa, Rasboom Mweemba, Nalishuwa Lilian, Sambandala Sario, Mutame Muyongo, Mwiya Partson Sichimwa, Lumba Sibuku, and Nyambe Loidy Limbo.
While addressing his party members, Lukato commended Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa for his work with local authorities. He urged his candidates to address issues at the Katima Mulilo Town Council, particularly focusing on the debt collection company, Redforce Debt Management, once elected. He suggested writing off old municipal debts to encourage residents to pay for council services and generate more revenue.
Lukato criticised the town council’s management for the state of the Katima Mulilo open market, pointing to frequent sewage overflows as evidence of the council’s shortcomings. He also warned against corruption, reminding candidates to serve the public’s interests faithfully. He stated that any involvement in corrupt activities would lead to immediate replacement, as the NDP strongly condemns corruption.
The party also welcomed new members during the gathering.
